This 2011 Ferrari 458 Challenge is finished in white with black accents and is powered by a 4.5-liter DOHC V8 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an electronic differential. The car was reportedly sold new in Europe and imported to the US in 2016. The seller purchased it in 2017 and has used it for track day events at facilities such as Thunderhill Raceway Park and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Equipment includes a factory roll cage, an integrated air jack system, a fire-suppression system, air conditioning, Brembo brake calipers, and Sabelt racing seats and harnesses. Modifications include an AiM SOLO GPS lap timer, a MoTeC data logger, and GT3-style body aero equipment including a front splitter and an adjustable rear wing. This 458 Challenge is now offered in California with a Ferrari VCI tuning interface, a spare rebuilt gearbox assembly, a spare exhaust system for noise-restricted tracks, spare front and rear bumpers, a spare spoiler assembly, a spare front tray, a spare front hood, three spare radiators, four spare brake rotors, miscellaneous other spare parts, a portable air compressor and air tank, parts invoices and service records, and a bill of sale.

GT3-Style 2011 Ferrari 458 Challenge

The 458 Challenge was constructed with carbon fiber body panels and thinner bodywork when compared to the stock 458 Italia. It features polycarbonate windows, front and rear tow hooks, and racing-style fuel fillers on each rear sail panel. This example is finished in white with black accents and is fitted with a GT3-style aerodynamics package including a front splitter and an adjustable rear wing.

19″ BBS center-lock wheels are finished in black and are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero racing tires. Braking is handled by Brembo calipers paired with replacement slotted steel Girodisc rotors. The removed carbon-ceramic rotors are included in the sale. 458 Challenge suspension modifications include solid aluminum bushings, stiffer springs, single-rate dampers, and a 30mm-lower ride height.

GT3-Style 2011 Ferrari 458 Challenge

The cockpit features Sabelt fixed-back carbon-fiber seats upholstered in black and red, Sabelt harnesses, and a factory-installed roll cage. Additional equipment includes air conditioning, an Alcantara-wrapped dash pad, a Sparco fire-suppression system, and a carbon fiber center console with a battery cut-out switch. A MoTeC data logger was installed in 2018 at a cost of over $7k and includes real-time coaching and review functionality.

GT3-Style 2011 Ferrari 458 Challenge

The multi-function steering wheel fronts a factory digital dash that displays readouts for engine speed, gear indication, water temperature, oil temperature, vehicle speed, and other system data. An AiM SOLO GPS lap timer is fitted to the roll cage, and the digital odometer shows 14k kilometers (~9k miles).

GT3-Style 2011 Ferrari 458 Challenge

The 4.5-liter F136 V8 features dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing. The seller states that an extra exhaust system with catalytic converters for tracks with noise restrictions will accompany the car. The stainless exhaust currently installed features turn downs angled toward the driver’s side. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a paddle-shifted seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with an electronic limited-slip differential.

The seller states that a spare rebuilt gearbox assembly will accompany the car, as will a Ferrari VCI tuning interface and laptop computer. Additional included spares are pictured at the end of the photo gallery below.

The seller has provided a video of the car at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca above and a video of the car lapping the track at Thunderhill Raceway Park below.

@halfplus7 – I let the Stroll connection out, as I figured most people would not know who he is.

@marcmerlin

A new Leonardo is $20k + $3K for the 458 option – and that is not the OEM. I could not find any currently for sale or Google or eBay. Gold, Jerry Gold!

25K? holly damn… I had no idea.
I kept this one in case I’d ever need it at the track, but my mechanic had his own. I guess I should have sold it :)

@marcmerlin, gotcha on the tranny. IIRC, the computer is was, or is about $25k. I had a third party (Leonardo) setup (mostly because I’m stubborn and wanted control for myself), for my 360. But found I was better to take it to a shop. I have a friend who raced 458 series a couple of years ago. I think he came 3rd but said it sucked his entire life up for the year between track days, travel, qualifying, qualifying and then racing the series. never mind the $$$. But I do think he was glad he did.

@wheezer, I didn’t ask how hard you were celebrating, no worries, I understand :)
The rear wing, I’m going to assume is adjustable but honestly I’ve never messed with it.
Picture 93 shows another hole, so you can rotate it to a different angle, and I guess if you need more angles, you can add a few holes as needed.
I just assumed that it was set for perfection :)

@marcmerlin: Sorry about the P1. Thanks for the kind words and solid attitude. Both computer and I had a bad case of New Years Eve Lockdown Hangover on steroids. Should have gone to bed MUCH earlier. BTW do you know if the rear wing is adjustable ?

@Fcat360: just to be clear, it’s a spare transmission, not a spare engine, but yes, the transmission is quite expensive. The VCI can be unoptanium, ferrari is very hard to work with and doesn’t seem to like that you can talk to their computers with “their tool”. I have no idea what it’s worth exactly, but I know it’s definitely worth extra, which is why I made sure to point it out :)
Laguna pipes, don’t get me started. Laguna is a fantastic track, but people moved close to it, and started complaining that tracks are loud. Sigh… On the plus side laguna sometimes has mobile sound checks, but they are very rare. Either way, unless the day is very cold (cold makes sound travel better and be louder), the car passes 103db without the laguna pipes, and 103d is plenty loud and fun for me :)

The spare engine and computer adds considerably to the value.

Laguna Pipes – made me laugh. I have a 90 degree elbow I put on my Radical at Circuit Tremblant to defeat the noise abatement. Btu then one day they stuck the roving sound meter under the bridge to chase everyone off – why? Well, because the track owner was flying up in his helicopter to play on the track with his 488.

We’ve removed the last bid from @wheezer. As much as we’d love to see @marcmerlin get his P1, we understand that mistakes happen. @wheezer, feel free to replace the bid if you’d like. Thanks!

Jan 2 at 8:02 AM

@wheezer: no backsies, I’ve been wanting to buy a used Mclaren P1, thanks to you, that might become reality ;-)
(more seriously, BaT said it should get fixed ASAP)

You could make a small fortune racing 458 Challenge cars.
Ideally, start with a large fortune.

@Tyler2018: you’re not familiar with the “laguna pipes” that turn away from the sound station? :)
i don’t have to lift on a 103db day. On a 90db day, forget it. I’ve never owned a car that passes 90db without lifting. I’ll have to say that this car is proper loud, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much, and it’s also great because other cars hear you coming and are more likely to get out of the way :)
The car does come with a 2nd exhaust that is more quiet, but I very much doubt it passes 90db without lifting
