Caption : Hundreds of thousands of people visit Glacier Bay each year and pass along the strip of water through which this cruise ship transits. I'd guess that 20 people or fewer stand within a hundred yards of where I took this photo each year – and I wouldn't be surprised if only a handful of boundary surveyors and geologists are the only people to have ever stood atop the 8,214 foot summit of Mt. Barnard, the high peak above the ship. This rugged mountainous landscape is a difficult place to visit...green in this early September photo, but for half the year cloaked in deep snow and bone-chilling cold.
