Caption : | Harbor seals haul out on icebergs in great numbers in Glacier Bay. However, in recent years the harbor seal population in Glacier Bay has declined precipitously. Researchers studying the decline are investigating possible reasons such as changes in habitat, human disturbance, disease, emigration and increased predation from killer whales, Steller sea lions or perhaps sharks. This seal looked up briefly from its resting position and I took the shot. The water was so calm that the seal and the iceberg were reflected below. |
