I'm now up to 7 thinkpad over the years: thinkpad 365XD (800x600), thinkpad A21p (1600x1200), thinpad T42p (1600x1200), thinkpad Z61p (1920x1200), thinkpad W500 (1920x1200), thinkpad T530 (1920x1080), and now Thinkpad T540p (2880x1620)
I was pissed when going to the T530 and losing lines of resolution and while the T530 was otherwise a good fast 4 core computer, the loss of resolutiion was a daily thorn that caused me to swear at Lenovo for being so cheap.
I was eagerly waiting for the T540p since it was the first lenovo with more pixels. and the fact that it came with Haswell was promissing for battery life. In the end, the battery life is almost the same as the T530's because the more efficient CPU is offset by the beautiful screen.
Here's a quick rundown:
I The T42p is still obviously quite old now, it works for running terminals to connect around :)
The Z61p still works well, it has 3GB of RAM usable and is running windows for Jennifer.
The W500 has 8GB of RAM, now comes with 802.11N wireless.
The T530 was a good 4 core laptop with 8GB of RAM, except for the low screen resolution (downgraded from 1200 lines to 1080 lines), it's quite good and I'd have kept it longer
And the T540 comes in here, the CPUs is faster (8 cores), 16GB of RAM, and many many more pixels
What's annoying with the T540p is the lack of mouse buttons. I had to use bluetack on the mousepad to clearly show where the locations for button #1, #2, and #3. For the rest, I was able to put a 1TB SSD, and a 1TB hard drive, so it's a pretty decked out machine :)
